DESCRIPTION: Copps Backing Accelerator is a low viscosity, easy to mix and use material that that will accelerate the gel and cure time of Copps backing.

USES: Copps Backing Accelerator can be used to speed up backing cure times under a wide range of temperatures and reduce down time.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

MIXED VISCOSITY (ASTM D-2196) BROOKFIELD 120 CPS AT 77 ° F
WEIGHT PER GALLON 10.2
COLOR AMBER

The following chart will help to determine the amount of Copps Backing Accelerator to use with one 22# kit of Copps Regular Backing.

Material temperature Gel time without accelerator Gel time with one(1) can accel. Gel time with two(2) cans accel
46 ° F/8 ° C 45 minutes 25 minutes 19 minutes
77 ° F/25 ° C 25 minutes 17 minutes 13 minutes
90 ° F/32 ° C 20 minutes 13 minutes 10 minutes

One(1) can of accelerator equals .5% added to the 22 lb. backing kit.

Two(2) cans equal 1% added to the 22 lb. backing kit.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Proper mixing procedures are very important.

  1. Add the accelerator to the Copps Regular backing resin (tan material). Do not add accelerator to the hardener.
  2. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Add hardener and mix to a uniform color.

Copps Backing Accelerator that is not thoroughly mixed into the resin or that is added directly to the hardener will result in improper cure, lumpy end product and/or poor physical properties.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Avoid breathing of vapors. Forced local exhaust is recommended to effectively minimize exposure. NIOSH approved, organic vapor respirators and forced exhaust are recommended in confined areas, or when conditions (such as heated polymers, sanding) may cause high vapor concentrations. Do not weld on or burn the backing. Hazardous vapor is released when the backing is burned.

Avoid skin or eye contact with hardener. Wash skin with soap and water if contact occurs. If eye contact occurs flush with water for 15 minutes and obtain medical attention.

Read and understand all cautions on can labels and material safety data sheets before using this material.
